New members nominated to the Board of the John Nurminen Foundation: Eeva Ahdekivi, Per-Edvin Persson and Pertti Torstila

Three new members were nominated to the Board of the John Nurminen Foundation at the Board’s Annual Meeting on 10 February 2014. The new members are Eeva Ahdekivi M.Sc. (Econ), Per-Edvin Persson,professor and Pertti Torstila, Secretary of State.

Eeva Ahdekivi (b. 1966) has held the position of Investment Director at Solidium since 2009. From 2007 to 2009, she was Senior Financial Analyst at the Government Ownership Steering Department of the Prime Minister’s Office.
Per-Edvin Persson, professor, (b. 1949) was Director of the Heureka Science Centre from 1991 to 2013. Before this, he was the Scientific Director of Heureka from 1987 to 1991.
Pertti Torstila, Secretary of State (b. 1946) is a seasoned public servant and diplomat. He has served as Secretary of State at the Foreign Ministry of Finland since 2006.

Annamari Arrakoski-Engardtt, who was appointed Secretary General of the Foundation in January 2014, left her position in the Board upon taking on her new responsibilities in January 2014. Also, Board members Peter Fagernäs and Sari Baldauf left their positions in December 2013. Peter Fagernäs was a Board member since 2004, and Sari Baldauf joined in 2009.

Juha Nurminen Chairman of the Board, extends his thanks to the leaving Board members, and congratulates them for their excellent and active contribution to the work and further development of Foundation’s Board.
Juhani Kaskeala, Jouko Lönnqvist (Vice Chairman), Juha Nurminen (Chairman), Veli Sundbäck and Hannu Syrjänen continue as members of the Board of Directors.

The John Nurminen Foundation was established in 1992 on Juha Nurminen’s initiative to safeguard the cultural heritage of Finnish seafaring and maritime history. The purpose of the Foundation is to present and introduce the remarkable cultural heritage of the Baltic Sea to experts and the general public alike. In 2004, with the backing of the initial capital donated by Juha Nurminen, the Foundation expanded its operations to include environmental protection. At this time, the Clean Baltic Sea environmental projects were initiated as a second branch of the Foundation’s operations. The target of the projects is to reduce eutrophication in the Baltic Sea, and minimise the risk of oil accidents in the Gulf of Finland.
