Operation A Day’s Work
The objective of the John Nurminen Foundation is the wellbeing of the sea, and the dissemination of its manifold stories. Our projects improve the status of the Baltic Sea by reducing the nutrient load that is too much for the sea to bear, and by reducing environmental risks. In particular, we combat eutrophication of the Baltic Sea. Eutrophication manifests itself in e.g. the blue-green algal blooms we witness every summer, and in cloudy coastal waters. In addition to Baltic Sea protection work, the Foundation wants to ensure that the stories of the Baltic Sea are also transferred to future generations. By choosing the John Nurminen Foundation as the recipient of your A Day’s Work collection, you join the Baltic Sea rescue team.
We will provide you with materials for a Baltic Sea-themed lesson. During the lesson, your class can learn about the status of the Baltic Sea, its problems, and measures that make the sea healthier. We recommend that you have the Baltic Sea lesson before the A Day’s Work collection. You school is free to choose the date of the collection. Student participation is voluntary. A recommended fee for A Day’s Work is €15.
How to start a collection
- Agree on the date of the A Day’s Work collection
- Sign your school or class up for the John Nurminen Foundation A Day’s Work collection with the form below
- In a reply message, you will receive instructions and materials for your contact person

Please note that the Foundation does not insure the A Day’s Work collection participants.
You can pay your respects to the memory of someone who has passed away by making a commemorative donation. Instead of buying flowers or cards of condolence, a shared collection will support the work that helps preserve the Baltic Sea for future generations.
The family of the departed will receive a list of all donors, and the total sum of the donations. The information will be sent out approximately two weeks after the memorial service.
Setting up an in memory collection is easy. If you wish to set up a collection, fill in the required information below.
Setting up an in memory collection
A family member of the departed, for example, can set up an in memory collection. All in memory donations will be directed to the collection set up in this way. After an in memory donation has been set up, this option to donate can be announced in a death notice or obituary.
Please fill in the form below with the information that enables us to keep track of In Memory donations. If you wish to receive information on the final donated sum and the names of the donors, we will need your address and the date of the memorial service.
Please ask donors to fill in the following information in the ‘message’ section of a bank transfer form:
- Name of the departed
- Name(s) of the donor(s)
This will help us ensure that the donations will be directed to the selected collection.
