Viivi Moll appointed project manager of PRESTO

Viivi Moll, M.Sc. (Eng), started as the project manager of the John Nurminen Foundation PRESTO Project on 1 March 2012.

Viivi comes to the Foundation from the Lahti Science and Business Park, where she worked as a project coordinator of internationalisation services in the Russia and EU Partner Network teams. Her primary responsibility was the Clean Water pilot, which concerns the protection of the Baltic Sea and is part of the StarDust project; she has also worked with various other projects related to Russia and to water.

Prior to this, when employed by a private company, Viivi tested the nutrient removal efficiency of MBR systems. Her education also includes language competences in Russian, an exchange year in Irkutsk, Russia, and field work for her thesis in Khwarezm, Uzbekistan. Viivi gained even more international experience of the water industry while she was employed by the Finnish Environment Institute in Kyrgystan, and participated in study trips in Tajikistan and South-Eastern Asia.

PRESTO, initiated in late 2011, is a joint project focusing on the Baltic Sea region: its target is an annual reduction of 500 tonnes of eutrophicating phosphorus load from four Belarusian cities. The John Nurminen Foundation is in charge of the PRESTO project investments to the cities’ wastewater treatment plants. The Foundation also monitors how the investments are carried out in practice. In addition to concrete equipment investments, the PRESTO project goals include training Belarusian wastewater professionals and increasing their knowledge on the topic of nutrient removal.
